The Reliability & Performance Engineer is responsible for assessing electric distribution system performance and transforming reliability analysis results into actionable improvement plans. This role focuses on reliability assessment, outage performance, and planning strategies to improve system reliability and customer experience.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and analyzing distribution system reliability performance using industry standard metrics and statistical analysis
  • Validate outage data through OMS, AMI, SCADA, and field information to ensure data accuracy.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for major outages, repeat events, and poor-performing feeders or assets.
  • Develop reliability improvement plans based on assessment findings and historical performance trends.
  • Support short-term and long-term reliability planning initiatives aligned with utility performance targets and capital investment.
  • Support risk-based prioritization of reliability projects using performance data and outage history.
  • Develop and maintain reliability dashboards and performance reports for leadership and operational teams.
  • Track reliability performance against internal goals, regulatory benchmarks, and peer utilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in electric distribution utilities or reliability engineering utilities.
  • Strong analytical skills, leadership, and communication.
  • Understanding of distribution system operations and reliability metrics
  • Perform complex analysis with limited supervision
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, SQL, SAS, or Python for analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with tools such as CYME, Milsoft, or similar software.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability and willingness to take initiative and champion process improvement.
  • Team player.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, in engineering (Electrical preferred) ; ABET-accredited program.

Work Environment

This position works closely with operational teams and other company stakeholders, as well as external consultants and contractors. Occasional travel within AES Ohio, AES Indiana, and the service territory is required.
